Here we go! I realize that it is EXTREMELY important for us to learn all about the HEB23. I do want to develop these valuable skills, and I appreciate the work that Kiera has done to set this up for us, yet I am worried about having the time to complete the assignments by April 30!

There is not a spare minute during the school day to work through the activities, and I am resentful that the time will need to come from my own personal time on evenings and weekends. Even though we will be able to earn staff development credit, I feel that this learning should occur during our "school day."

I have always tried to accrue lots of staff development time because I knew that it made me a better librarian, and I know that all of the teachers also do that, too, but I am getting worn out from that, as are many of my fellow staff members and librarians, and I feel that there should be another way offered for all of us to develop our skills DURING our regular work time rather than after busy school days or on weekends! I am hoping to see a different plan for staff development introduced in the future, and maybe we can begin to brainstorm some ideas for that!

This is my 38th year as an educator and my 17th year in HEB, all as the librarian at Shady Oaks. I earned my BA at Wittenberg University in Ohio and my MLIS at the State University of New York at Geneseo. I am a pretty private person, so do not wish to post about my personal life at this point - maybe that will change as we go along. I am looking forward to interacting with all of you through our blogs.
